Tancast
..........................................................................................

“Tancast” was specially developed for use in the Aerospace industry but has found increasing application in those areas of production engineering where C.N.C machine tools are used.

It properties make it ideal material for training purposes where the low cutting forces involved ensure that unintentional machining does not result in broken tools or the workpiece being snatched from the chuck. In addition the high feed rates which are possible allow more complex exercises to be set and carried out in a shorter time.

Turning

Demonstrations may also be accelerated to show the capabilities of a machine or program in a more effective way.

The use of Tancast in program verification gives a direct, easily interpreted result and eliminates the need for further program checking. On machining, a fine foam structure is exposed and dimensions may be measured to +/- 0.1mm (+/-0.004in).

Thin wall sections

The swarf is in the form of a powder and care should be taken in exposing Tancast to naked flames since it will burn. If precautions normally taken in the machining of wood are adhered to, no problem should result. A small industrial vacuum cleaner will effectively remove dust and swarf.

Drilling & Tapping

Tancast is made in a range of densities. For general use Tancast 8 is recommended but higher densities 10, 12 & 16 are more satisfactory where deep thin sections are to be machined.

Simple Programs

Tancast is sold in rough cast blocks in a variety of sizes to suit different applications. The block is slightly loaf shaped and the height of the block is measured to the shoulder and can be varied to suit customer requirements.
